In Poppy Page’s mind, there are two types of women in this world: those who are faithful to their husbands, and those who are not. Until now, Poppy has never questioned which she was.
But when handsome, charming Matthew Gordon walks back into her life after almost two decades, that changes. Poppy makes a single mistake – and that mistake will be far more dangerous than she could imagine.
Someone is going to pay for it with their life . . .
I thought this was a brilliant and fantastic thriller! “It started with a kiss and ended with a murder”. Boom, right at the beginning of the story we knew there was a murder. It was no doubt that the author wanted us to figure out who this was, what happened to him and how this person fit in the story as we read on. It has certainly got my brain working! This was a story told from two women’s perspectives: Poppy, who married to Stuart with two children and Betty, Poppy’s mother in law.
Their perspectives intertwined with each other, one set in present and the other narrative mainly touch on the past. The dual perspectives slowly but surely draw the readers in and slowly unfolded the layers upon layers of secrets. I found it incredibly engaging and captivating. I enjoyed Betty’s perspective the most. I love knowing more about her and her life in the 60s and 70s and all that she has done to sacrifice herself for the sake of her family. It was so well plotted and structured.
Of course I didn’t get the murderer right, like when did I ever?😂I finished this book in one day, even though it was slow burn but I couldn’t put this down. It was slow burn but at the same time it was gripping, you won’t want to stop reading until you know the answer.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this book! I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a fantastic domestic thriller.
