No matter where you run . . . He’s never far behind
Lisa needs to disappear. And her friend’s rambling old home in the wilds of Yorkshire seems like the perfect place. It’s miles away from the closest town, and no one there knows her or her little boy, Joe. But when a woman from the local village comes to visit them, Lisa realizes that she and Joe aren’t as safe as she thought.
What secret has Rowan Isle House – and her friend – kept hidden all these years?

Sometimes I really appreciate a slow burn thriller. Not everything has to be fast-paced and whenever I read a slow burn thriller, I often end up loving the author’s ability to give us such intense experience but with such deliberate slowness. It is almost as if the author is testing you out, to see if you can detect any clue for the twist, and then before you can conclude anything, boom, the ending will completely blow your mind.
Don’t think because it is a slow burn thriller, you would eventually lost interest in the story. No! This has everything an excellent thriller has, tension, suspense, questionable characters, and most of all, and most importantly of all, it is emotive. The suspense mixed with emotion are what make this book for me.
I love the dural timelines of the story telling. I love that the author has done an excellent job portraying Lisa. Her motherly instinct comes head to head with unknown danger. There are so many layers to Lisa’s character I enjoy reading her part of the story the most. In addition, the author has created such atmosphere read. The house itself has become a character of its own. It is creepy which in turn makes the story a hair-raising read.
Overall I really enjoyed this thriller! Thank you so much Ellie and Viking Books for this copy to review!
