Book Review

The Seven Husband of Evelyn Hugo

4 or 4.5 out of 5 stars!

Synopsis:

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story near its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

My Review:

4-4.5 stars! This book is incredibly addictive and so unique and different than most of the romance books on the market right now. Definitely a very very enjoyable and recommended read. It’s like reading 7 “romances” in one book. I have to say the main heroine Evenly is a real badass. She did what she could to help herself and to protect the ones she loved. It’s incredible to see all the stories unfolded and got completely engrossed in her life story.

You have got to read this book to understand is there really 7 Husbands? And what is each husband’s story? And what’s the plot? Hmmm… you have to read it to find out!!!

The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars (it was sooo close and I was quite tempting) was because I found Monique, the writer who helped Evenly wrote her book, quite unpleasant. I don’t know what it is with her, I just don’t like the way she talked to Evenly or just the vibe she gave was quite unpleasant throughout… if she is a bit more likeable, I would have given this book5 stars, just my personal opinion! But her part doesn’t impact the enjoyment of the book. This was still such a highly entertain and addictive adult fiction. Recommended!
